Mother Arrested After Child Dies in Cape Coral Car Accident

by Carmen Dellutri on April 24, 2012

Fort Myers injury lawyerFollowing a tragic Cape Coral accident that resulted in the death of a young girl, the child’s mother has been arrested. The toddler, Eva Daghra, was fatally injured in the accident because she was not harnessed into her car seat.

According to Wink News, Monique O'Neill-Daghra, 31, has been arrested for negligent manslaughter. She rear-ended another vehicle at Fowler and Market Streets in an accident in February. Her daughter Eva was sitting unfastened in her car seat in the front seat of the vehicle. The car seat was also not anchored into the vehicle and the airbag deployed.

As Cape Coral accident attorneys, we hope that other parents can learn from Eva’s death. As we have previously discussed on this blog, the proper use of a child seat is the most effective way to keep a child safe in a moving vehicle. In fact, the Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that 8,959 lives were saved by child restraint systems from 1975 to 2008.
