Port Charlotte Accident Attorney: New Partnership Targets Distracted Driving Among Public Transit Workers

by Carmen Dellutri on April 30, 2012

Fort Myers accident attorneyThe Florida Department of Transportation has teamed up with the Federal Transit Administration to reduce distracted driving among public transportation employees. As Port Charlotte accidents attorneys, we are pleased that the state is making an effort to address this important segment of the driving population. While Congress has passed a law banning commercial truck drivers and bus drivers from texting while driving, public transit is not part of the ban.

The FTA and the FDOT said they were releasing an 30-minute instructional course for transit employees that it hopes will remind public transportation drivers of the dangers of distracted driving.

"I strongly encourage you to make this course a part of your ongoing distracted driving program or fold it into your existing employee safety and training curriculum," FTA Administrator Peter Rogoff wrote in a "Dear Colleague" letter.

"It’s an excellent tool to educate, inform, and increase awareness among all transit workers about the dangers and challenges associated with distracted driving," he continued.
