Fort Myers Injury Attorneys: Safety Regulator Warns About More Toyota Floor Mat Problems

by Carmen Dellutri on July 24, 2012

Port Charlotte injury attorneyAs Fort Myers injury attorneys, we are concerned that Toyota is still having problems with unintended vehicle acceleration. The carmaker recently announced that it would recall 154,000 of its Lexus SUVs because their floor mats can trap the gas pedal and cause the vehicles to speed up without warning.

The recall specifically involves 2010 Lexus RX 350 and RX 450 H vehicles. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), it requested that Toyota launch the recall after noticing an uptick in consumer complaints and other reports regarding pedal entrapment in these vehicles.

The NHTSA also announced that it is considering opening an investigation into whether Toyota met its obligation to notify the agency and conduct a recall in a timely manner. This would not be the first time Toyota was investigated by the regulator. Over the past few years, Toyota has paid a record $48.8 million in fines to the government for failing to promptly alert regulators to safety problems.

For owners of these vehicles, we urge you to follow the NHTSA’s advice to immediately remove the floor mat and have your vehicles serviced as soon as possible. You can also stay tuned to this blog for additional vehicle safety information.
