Port Charlotte Injury Attorneys: Electric Motorcycles Recalled

by Carmen Dellutri on July 31, 2012

Sarasota accident attorneyWhile electric motorcycles are environmentally friendly, they can also be dangerous. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced that Zero Motorcycles is recalling 254 of its 2012 all-electric motorcycles.

According to the recall notice, the defective bikes have "insufficient weatherproofing." This means that when the battery-powered motorcycle are subjected to wet conditions, the battery management system circuit board may short.

As Port Charlotte injury attorneys, this recall is concerning because the sudden loss of power could lead to serious Port Charlotte motorcycle accident. Therefore, we urge riders to stop using these vehicles immediately.

Also troubling, the company has announced a second motorcycle recall involving all 2011 and 2012 models to address an issue with the front brake light switch. The brake light may not activate with a light or moderate brake application, and therefore not alert other vehicles that the motorcycle is decelerating.

Owners can expect to receive recall notices this month. According to the company, dealers will inspect and repair the motorcycles free of charge.
