Drunk Driving Crackdown Targets Florida Motorcycle Accidents

by Carmen Dellutri on August 13, 2012

Fort Myers motorcycle accident lawyerAs we mentioned last week, Florida law enforcement will be ending the summer with a national enforcement program targeting drunk driving. The initiative will not only target impaired drivers, but impaired motorcycle riders as well. The drunk riding prevention effort will be held from August 17-September 3.

Unfortunately, impaired driving can be even more dangerous on a motorcycle. Because alcohol affects those skills essential to riding a motorcycle—balance and coordination—it plays a role in many fatal Florida motorcycle accidents.

As Port Charlotte injury attorneys, we have seen firsthand the devastating effects of a serious motorcycle accident. Therefore, we want to do our part to increase awareness.

We urge all motorcyclists to keep the following statistics in mind this summer:

▪       Having any alcohol in one’s body increases the chance of crashing by five times.

▪       Having a BAC greater than 0.05 percent increases the risk of crashing about 40-fold.

▪       One-fourth of all fatal alcohol-related motorcycle accidents involve motorcyclists running off the road, overturning, or falling from the motorcycle rather than striking another object.

The Dellutri Law Group is focused on making bad situations better and putting lives back together. If you or someone you love has been seriously injured in a Port Charlotte accident caused by someone else’s negligence, you may be entitled to compensation.
