Port Charlotte Injury Lawyer: The ABCDs of Drowning Prevention

by Carmen Dellutri on August 20, 2012

Florida drowning accident attorneyHere in sunny Florida the swimming season doesn’t end when children go back to school. Therefore, drowning prevention efforts are important all year round.

As Port Charlotte injury attorneys, we have heard a lot of tips for preventing drowning accidents in backyard pools. However, the Drowning Coalition of Palm Beach County’s “ABCDs” formula is worth sharing with our readers.

“A” stands for adult supervision and comes with a reminder to avoid distractions.

"B" is for barriers, meaning pools should have several layers of protection to prevent children from falling.

"C" stands for classes. Both kids and adults should take swimming lessons and other water safety classes. The letter also stands for CPR, which can help prevent a near drowning from turning into a tragedy.

"D" stands for drain safety. Many older pools in Florida have drains that can cause kids to be pulled to the bottom. Therefore, it is important to have your drain checked to see if it poses a risk to children.
