Port Charlotte Accident Lawyers: Florida Cracking Down on Aggressive Drivers

by Carmen Dellutri on November 23, 2012

Cape Coral accident attorneyIn an effort to prevent fatal crashes involving cars and commercial trucks, the Florida Highway Patrol has launched an initiative to ticket aggressive car and truck drivers. It will also be conducting outreach and education to raise awareness among car and truck drivers about safe driving behaviors.

As Port Charlotte accident lawyers, we know that big trucks and small cars can be a deadly combination, particularly when vehicles are traveling at high speeds on the highway. As highlighted by the FHP, driver error is the cause of 88 percent of the crashes involving cars and commercial trucks.

The FHP enforcement campaign will target violations attributed to aggressive driving, including following too closely, unsafe lane change and speeding. The campaign will consist of four enforcement phases targeting different areas of the state and will continue through July 2013.

“The Florida Highway Patrol is committed to reducing the number of commercial vehicle related crashes, said Col. David Brierton, director of the Florida Highway Patrol. “Crash reduction can be achieved if we all share the highway with each other and avoid aggressive driving behaviors.”
