Strange But True: Lawn Mower and Vehicle Collide in Fort Myers Car Accident

by Carmen Dellutri on June 6, 2011

Florida personal injury attorneyAs reported by MSNBC, one person is in the hospital after a car and lawn mower collided in a bizarre Fort Myers car accident.

According to officials with the Lee County Sheriff's Office, the man on the mower attempted to cross the southbound lanes of Palm Beach Boulevard when he was hit by a car. The man was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital, but his name and condition have not been released.

"It happened so quick that before I look up, he's flying up over the car and landed on the street," a witness stated.

Unfortunately, accidents involving lawn tractors or riding mowers are not as uncommon as one would suspect.

Earlier in April, a Florida man was killed when he attempted to cross the street on his lawnmower, which was pulling a trailer.

In both cases, the driver of the approaching vehicle was not able to stop in time and avoid hitting the lawnmower.

While riding lawn mowers are extremely useful to landscapers and homeowners, they also present a very real risk of injury when not used properly.

As the above stories highlight, driving a tractor or mower onto a public roadway is extremely dangerous since these vehicles do not offer the same safety features as regular vehicles.

Even in your own yard, riding mowers and tractors are also at high risk for rollover when used on uneven surfaces. Therefore, Florida residents are reminded to use the utmost care when operating these machines.
