Florida Woman Killed in Jet Ski Accident

by Carmen Dellutri on June 6, 2011

Sarasota personal injury attorneyAccording to news reports, a Florida woman was killed in a jet ski accident in the Bahamas while vacationing aboard a Carnival cruise ship. According to reports, the woman and a male, who was seriously injured, were riding a rented jet ski when it collided with a boat in the area called The Narrows, between Paradise Island and Athol Island.

There are still many questions surrounding the accident. There are conflicting reports regarding whether the jet ski crashed into the boat or the boat ran over the jet ski.

Questions also remain as to why the passengers were in The Narrows, since perimeter boundaries do not allow jet ski riders to travel in that area.

Finally, it is unclear where the couple rented the jet ski and whether they received any training on how to operate it safely.

Jet skis can be particularly dangerous because they are capable of traveling at very high speeds, but do not afford the driver any protection during a collision. As a result, jet ski accidents are often far more deadly than a boat or motor vehicle accidents.

With this in mind, Floridians should use extreme caution when operating jet skis or other personal watercraft.
