If Speeding on Naples Roadways Is So Dangerous, Why Do We Do It?

by Carmen Dellutri on March 15, 2013

Fort Myers personal injury attorneysSpeeding on Naples roadways is widespread. Interestingly, this is despite the fact that most drivers acknowledge it to be a risky driving behavior.

A recent study by AAA Foundation highlights just how common this phenomenon is among drivers. It found that nearly half of all drivers (49.3 percent) report that they have driven 15 mph over the speed limit on a freeway in the past month. Roughly the same percentage admits to having driven 10 mph over the speed limit on a residential street in the prior 30 days.

Yet, drivers also overwhelmingly also acknowledged that speeding is dangerous. Consider the following statistics:

  • Nearly half of all drivers say that drivers speeding on residential streets are a very serious threat to their personal safety, and one in three say this about drivers speeding on freeways.
  • Nearly 9 in 10 drivers consider it unacceptable (63.0 percent completely unacceptable) for a driver to drive 10 mph over the speed limit on a residential street, and 72.6 percent believe that most other people where they live consider it unacceptable for a driver to do so.
  • Nearly three in four drivers consider it unacceptable to drive 15 mph over the speed limit on freeways
  • Four in five drivers consider it unacceptable to drive 10 mph over the speed limit in urban areas, and nearly all (94.1%) consider it unacceptable to do so in a school zone.

The study highlights why it is so difficult to stop drivers from speeding. Most under stand that it is unacceptable, but continue to do it anyway.
