Spring Is Deadly Season for Motorcycle Accidents

by Carmen Dellutri on April 23, 2013

Florida motor vehicle accident attorneyDid you know that the spring is the most dangerous season for motorcyclists? Overall, approximately 31 percent of all fatal motorcycle crashes occur during the months of March, April, and May.

During the busy riding season , it is important to keep safety in mind. For new riders, proper training and education are imperative. In fact, the State of Florida now requires all motorcyclists to take and pass the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Basic RiderCourse™ before being licensed to legally ride in Florida.

Experienced riders should perform a safety check on their motorcycles to ensure that the tires, brakes, lights and other key parts are working properly. Of course, riders should also have all of the necessary protective equipment, including helmets and reflective clothing.

As we continually highlight on this Florida Injury Blog, wearing a helmet is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself from a serious injury during a crash. The National Highway Transportation Safety Board estimates that in 2010, helmet use saved the lives of 1,544 motorcyclists, and an additional 709 lives might have been saved if all motorcyclists had worn helmet.
