Deadliest 100 Days for Teens on the Road Begins

by Carmen Dellutri on June 11, 2013

Fort Myers personal injury lawyerMemorial Day not only kicks off the summer season, but also the deadliest time of year for teens to be on the road. There are more fatal accidents during the 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day than any other time of the year. Based on statistics from the last five years, an average of eight teens (aged 16-19) were killed in car accidents every single day.

As Port Charlotte injury attorneys, we encourage parents to talk with their teens about safe driving before they hit the road this summer. Simply talking to your teen and setting some ground rules could prevent a tragic accident.

Below are a few important tips:

  • Practice safe driving skills as much as possible.
  • Always buckle up and make sure passengers do the same
  • Limit the number of passengers, particularly other teens
  • Never get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol
  • Obey posted speed limits and all other rules of the road
  • Limit driving at night
  • Put cell phones out of reach while driving.
  • Avoid other distractions, such as eating, drinking, adjusting the radio or programming a GPS

The Dellutri Law Group is focused on making bad situations better and putting lives back together. If you or someone you love has been seriously injured in a Port Charlotte accident caused by someone else’s negligence, you may be entitled to compensation.
