Dangerous Intersections Pose Risks for Collier County Drivers

Intersections can be a dangerous place for drivers. Across the country, more than 40 percent of all motor vehicle accidents occur at an intersection or are intersection related. Moreover, more than one-fifth of all fatal crashes take place at intersections.

In Collier County, not all intersections are created equal. In 2010, Naples News examined crash data to determine the most accident-prone areas in the county. For many drivers, the results won’t be surprising, as the intersections are some of the busiest.

The following intersections had the highest crash rates:

1. U.S. 41 East at State Road 29

2. Immokalee Road at Collier Boulevard

3. Vanderbilt Beach Road at Collier Boulevard

4. Vanderbilt Beach Road at Livingston Road

5. Pine Ridge Road at Logan Boulevard

Many Florida intersection accidents are attributed to driver error, such as inattention, red light running and failure to yield. The most common types of accidents were rear-end crashes and sideswipes.

However, some roadways are by their very nature more dangerous than others. Design flaws including improperly designed crosswalks, poor signage and inadequate visibility can all increase the risk of a crash.

If you have been injured in an auto accident at an intersection, it is advisable to speak with an experienced personal injury lawyer who can fully investigate your crash and determine all of the parties that may be potentially liable.
