Florida State Football Player Lucky to Walk Away from Motorcycle Accident

by Carmen Dellutri on August 23, 2013

Fort Myers accident lawyerFlorida State tight end Nick O'Leary is lucky to be alive after a horrific motorcycle accident in Tallahassee.

According to media reports, a Lexus pulled out in front of O’Leary and struck his motorcycle. The impact of the crash threw him 75-100 feet, and he narrowly missed a bus, which caught the entire accident on video. O’Leary was able to walk away from the crash and was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.

Of course, many motorcyclists in O’Leary’s position are not so lucky. Consider the following statistics:

  • Between 2001 and 2008, more than 34,000 motorcyclists were killed and an estimated 1,222,000 persons were treated in a U.S. emergency department for a non-fatal motorcycle-related injury.
  • The highest death and injury rates were among 20-24 year-olds, followed by 25-29 year-olds.
  • Motorcyclist death rates increased 55% from 2001 to 2008.

To stay safe on the road, we encourage bikers to always wear a helmet and other protective gear. It could save your life.
