distracted driving movieCritically acclaimed documentarian Werner Herzog tackled an unlikely topic in his latest project. The director used his talents to create a gripping public service announcement about the dangers of texting and driving.

As we have continually highlighted on this Florida Injury Blog, texting and driving is quickly becoming one of the greatest dangers on the road. In 2011, at least 23 percent of all auto collisions involved the use of a cell phone.

The PSA, called “From One Second to the Next,” is part of AT&T’s “It Can Wait” campaign. The 35-minute film chronicles a series of distracted driving tragedies caused by texting, featuring first-hand accounts from both the victims and the drivers.

One crash left a Milwaukee teen confined to a wheel chair after being struck by a driver who ran a stop sign. In another accident, an Indiana man rear-ended a horse-driven buggy and killed three members of an Amish family.
