Cape Coral Man Lucky to Survive Serious Bicycle Accident

by Carmen Dellutri on November 4, 2013

Fort Myers personal injury attorneyA Cape Coral bicyclist is lucky to be alive after being hit head on by a sport utility vehicle that drifted into the bicycle lane on Pine Island Road.

According to police, the impact of the crash propelled the bicyclist up onto the SUV's hood and into the windshield, before being ejected onto the roadway. The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained serious head injuries. Thankfully, he has since been released from Lee Memorial Hospital.

The bicycle crash is the latest in a series of serious Cape Coral traffic accidents. As reported by the Island Reporter, there have been 15 traffic fatalities in the Cape so far this year. By comparison, there were 10 recorded all of last year.

Since bicycle crashes can be among the most deadly, we encourage drivers and bicyclists to stay alert and share the road responsibly. For bikers, that means obeying the rules of the road, using hand signals, and using the proper safety equipment. For their part, drivers should avoid distractions behind the wheel and keeping an eye out for bicyclists when changing lanes, turning, and entering intersections.

The Dellutri Law Group is focused on making bad situations better and putting lives back together. If you or someone you love has been seriously injured in a Cape Coral bicycle accident caused by someone else’s negligence, you may be entitled to compensation.
