Sean Kingston Likely Facing Lawsuit for Florida Jet Ski Accident

by Carmen Dellutri on June 24, 2011

Florida jet ski accident lawyerWhile the passenger riding on the back of Sean Kingston’s jet ski when it crashed has pledged not to file a Florida personal injury lawsuit, Kingston may still be facing legal troubles. As we reported last week, the pop artist was seriously injured in a Florida jet ski accident when he crashed his personal watercraft into a Miami bridge.

Now it appears that the area where Kingston crashed is designated as a "manatee zone," and he could face fines up to $30,000 for the violation. According to NME, "local authorities [have] confirmed that they were investigating whether his jet skiing accident had upset local wildlife."

As Florida residents should be aware, the state has strict laws designed to protect manatees, most notably, rules that prohibit boats and watercrafts from producing a wake in areas inhabited by manatees. Based on the witness accounts of the his Florida jet ski accident, it appears that Kingston was likely travelling fast enough to produce a wake when he crashed.

As this story highlights, a Florida personal injury lawsuit is often not the only consequence of failing to follow Florida boating laws and safety guidelines.
