Is Your Cell Phone Worth Risking a Florida Car Accident?

by Carmen Dellutri on June 30, 2011

Naples car accident attorneyA Florida man recently learned that retrieving your cell phone from the floor of your car while driving is never a good idea. In fact, it can lead to a costly Florida car accident.

Jeremy Cochran, of Pensacola, was driving his vehicle when he dropped his cell phone, the Destin Log reports. He was reaching to retrieve it when he failed to see that three vehicles were all stopped at a traffic light.

Cochran ran into the rear of the first vehicle and continued through the other three vehicles before crossing the westbound lanes and coming to a final stop in a ditch. It is unclear if Cochran's 1999 Chevy truck hit every vehicle involved or if they hit each other.

Luckily, this Florida car accident only resulted in minor injuries. However, Cochran has been charged with careless driving, and it is estimated that the damage to the vehicles totals $44,000.

The message here is simple. If you need to do something that will require you to take your eyes off the road for just a second, always pull over to a safe location first.
