Are You Prepared to Survive a Florida Car Accident?

by Carmen Dellutri on August 10, 2011

Florida car accident lawyersIn a previous post, we discussed what to do if your car ends up submerged in water following a Florida car accident. It equally important to be prepared should your car simply go off the road and become trapped and out of sight of passing motorists.

As detailed in a recent MSNBC article, the best way to ensure that you survive this type of accident is to keep an emergency supply kit in your vehicle.

Below are the most important items to keep in your emergency kit:

  • First-aid kit with supplies to stop severe bleeding
  • Water
  • Granola bars or similar food items
  • Spring punch to break windows
  • Flashlight with extra batteries
  • Good Swiss Army-type pocketknife

In addition, it is important that the driver or front seat passenger can reach the kit. You may not always be able to access the trunk of the vehicle after an accident.

For longer trips, you may want to have additional supplies in the vehicle, including a map and portable CB radio, as reliable cell phone service is not always available. Finally, it is always a good idea to let someone know where you are going, the route you plan to take, and when you should be expected to arrive.
