New Report: Naples and Cape Coral at Greater Risk for Alcohol-Related Accidents

Naples  accident attorneyCape Coral and Naples have been named two of the nation's drunkest cities, according to U.S. News and World Report. Naples ranks 7th and Cape Coral ranks 9th in the nation.

As Florida personal injury attorneys, we know that means more alcohol-related accidents. Local law enforcement officers agree and are stepping up patrols, particularly as the holidays arrive. In Cape Coral, The increased patrols are currently underway and last through January 2.

As we noted last week, December signals the beginning of the deadliest season for motor vehicle crashes. According to reports, 56 people died in accidents on Florida roads during the holiday season in 2010. Of those deaths, 20 were caused by as a result of drinking and driving.

With this in mind, MADD has these tips to help keep everyone safe this holiday season:

  • Designate a sober driver before celebrations begin;
  • Plan safe parties, including providing non-alcoholic drink options to guests and not serving alcohol the last hour of the gathering;
  • Never serve alcohol to those under the age of 21;
  • If you’ve been drinking, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation;
  • If you see an impaired driver on the road, don’t hesitate to contact your local law enforcement;
  • If you know someone who is about to drive or ride with a driver who is impaired, take the driver’s keys and help him or her make other arrangements to get to where they are going safely.
