Motorcyclist Injured in Cape Coral Accident After Vehicle Fails to Stop For School Bus

by Carmen Dellutri on March 22, 2012

Sarasota accident attorneyA Cape Coral motorcyclist was injured after an accident involving truck that failed to stop when a school bus dropped kids off at a bus stop. The accident highlights that one driver’s inattention can often put several other drivers at risk.

As reported by, the driver of the truck was traveling eastbound behind Peter Lacavalla of Cape Coral. When the school bus made the stop, Lacavalla, 70, and other vehicles stopped.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck, which was also towing a trailer, failed to stop in time and swerved to avoid crashing into Lacavalla. The truck left the roadway and overturned with the trailer. The accident caused 1,000 gallons of a non-hazardous cleaning solution to leak.

Lacavalla's Harley-Davidson motorcycle was sprayed with the liquid and he lost control of it. He suffered minor injuries after falling from the motorcycle.

As this accident demonstrates, accidents often result when drivers aren’t paying attention. In fact, lapses in driver attention have been identified as a significant contributing factor in as many as 90 percent of traffic accidents. In particular, distractions and drowsiness often play a role. Therefore, we caution drivers to take steps to ensure that they remain alert and focuses when behind the wheel.
